Welcome to our website! Here you will find equipment lists
and prices for our two rather fine studios, as well as pictures
and a list of our most illustrious clients. Most of our work
comes by word of mouth, from a wide variety of satisfied customers,
some of whom have been using us since our very first year. About
two thirds of our output is for release, mainly albums and singles
for bands and Indie labels, but voice-overs, radio productions
and film and TV soundtracks as well.
In Studio One we now have the SADiE 5 twenty four track digital
editing system with Cedar DeNoiser and Retouch –probably
the best audio editor in the world!. The SADiE makes professional
Red Book PQ encoded CD masters either to CD-R or to Exabyte.
We also have a TC Finalizer to give your masters that extra
loudness. We offer fast (while-you-wait by appointment) low
cost CD-R duplication with Rimage on-CD printing, and short
run cassette copying.
Most of the work in Studio One involves bands playing live,
and the layout, screens and directional mics combine to give
excellent separation. Real drums and acoustic instruments are
actively encouraged here! Studio One is divided into four areas:
- the main recording room (14’4” by 12’10”),
the live room (13’5” by 10’9”) containing
the grand piano as well, the control room (11’ by 9’)
and the machine room /conservatory. Both the recording rooms
have direct window contact with the control room, though not
with each other, and there is natural light in every room. The
outboard equipment and microphone collection is particularly
good. Our wonderful RADAR II 24 track digital hard disk system
is only £22.00 per hour plus VAT. Tape backups cost only
£10.00 for around half an hour of 24 track, compared with
over £100.00 per 16 minutes for new 2” tape. For
analogue diehards however, our Studer A80 16 track 2”
is still available. The SADiE5 is used both to mix to and master
on and also as an eight input multitrack, so it’s great
for live piano and vocal sessions as well as complex edit-intensive
productions such as theatrical soundtracks.
In Studio Two Richard Edwards runs a sophisticated ProTools
setup and an array of synths, sampling and effects including
an Akai S5000 and the fab Lexicon PCM80 reverb in a comfortable
and well thought out environment. It is well suited to voice
recording as the overdub room has a usefully dry acoustic. The
studio also runs Logic Audio on a Mac G4 with a Soundtracs Solo
MIDI desk. 16 tracks of ADAT XT are available, and for that
analogue sound we have a Fostex G16. The control room measures
13’ 6” by 9’ 6” and has a pleasantly
spacious feel because of its split-level design and big windows.
There is good visual contact with the overdub room (9’
by 9’), which again has natural light. There are tie lines
through to Studio One for recording live drums or grand piano.
The studios take up the ground floor of two adjoining buildings.
There are kitchen areas and a beautiful garden to relax in.
We have daylight in every room, easy equipment loading, and
free parking outside.
RMS Studios began here as a 4 track in 1977, grew to 8, then
16 tracks in ’82, and 24 in 2000. We have produced hundreds
of successful releases over the years, including the album “So
Tough” by St. Etienne, which reached number seven in the
charts. We pride ourselves on consistent high quality and excellent
value in a relaxed and creative atmosphere.
I hope this gives you an idea of our capabilities, and that
we can be of use to you in the future. Please phone if you’d
like to visit.
Best Wishes,
Andy Le Vien and Alan Jones
